Contrary to how “diversity” and “multiculturalism” have been sold to the West, multicultural societies generally end up drearily monochromatic. A recent incident in France is a case in point, and shows unmistakably where the diversity/multiculti agenda leads.
The French-language Le Figaro reported Friday that in the picturesque French village of Saint-Pantaly-d’Excideuil in the Dordogne, which is a bustling metropolis of 146, people, a Calvary, which is a large stone cross monument, was spray-painted on Christmas Eve with the tag “Islam” and the Islamic crescent symbol. The monument, which is a place for travelers to stop and pray, has stood undisturbed in this quaint village since the 1800s, which means that it survived World Wars I and II and the National Socialist occupation of France. It has not, however, managed to escape unscathed from the era of diversity and multiculturalism.
The owner of the land on which the Calvary in Saint-Pantaly-d’Excideuil stands, whom Le Figaro identifies only as Quentin, declares: “It’s despicable, disgusting, childish…And it’s a reflection of today’s society.” That’s astute. A recent visitor to France told me that there is a tremendous sense of unease among many in the country, as they see the rapidly growing Muslim minority becoming increasingly assertive, aggressive, and confident that it will soon be in charge. If demographic trends continue, there is no reason to think otherwise. And when France does indeed become Islamic, age-old Christian churches and other monuments will either be Islamized or destroyed altogether.
Quentin continued somewhat less astutely but in a manner that demonstrated that he is quite aware of the prevailing ethos of the new France: “Everyone makes fun of everything.” It is unlikely, however, that those who spray-painted the Calvary on his property intended to make fun of anything. They were, rather, asserting dominance, and their imminent control and transformation of the country. The old, Christian France would be definitively laid to rest, and replaced with a new, Islamic France.
Suddenly aware that he might be making himself vulnerable to charges of “Islamophobia” that could mean personal and professional ruin, Quentin continued: “I pass over the sacrilege and will not participate in hate speech, but those who wrote this are idiots who do not respect the religion of our forefathers.” “Hate speech”? The only hate speech involved in this incident was the desecration of the Calvary, but Quentin was certainly right that those who spray-painted the monument “do not respect the religion of our forefather.” Indeed, the Qur’an says that “the unbelievers among the people of the book,” that is, Jews and Christians who do not become Muslims, are “the most vile of created beings” (98:6). Not only do they not respect the religion of the forefathers of the French people, but they mean to replace it with their own.
A non-profit organization in France, the S.O.S. Calvaires association, has begun efforts to clean the monument “after being alerted by a local resident who was ‘shocked’ by the damage.” Numerous French citizens have volunteered to clean it, but this is apparently not the only Calvary that has been subjected to this kind of treatment. Alexandre Caillé, the general director of S.O.S Calvaires, says sadly: “We try not to report on such damage too often, because it might seem pathetic.”

No. What is pathetic is that this sort of thing is happening in France since it embarked upon the path of diversity and multiculturalism. When a tolerant society welcomes a radically intolerant element, either it becomes intolerant itself or is conquered. France is in the process of being conquered, although, of course, if history teaches us anything, it is to expect the unexpected.
What happened to the Calvary in Saint-Pantaly-d’Excideuil is a small manifestation of the same supremacist impulse that leads Muslim conquerors to appropriate the sacred sites of conquered people, and either turn existing buildings into mosques, or destroy the existing buildings and build a mosque atop the ruins, as a sign of the victory and supremacy of Islam. We see this on the Temple Mount, where two mosques occupy the former site of the Jewish Temple, and in Istanbul, where Hagia Sophia, the grandest church in Christendom for nearly a thousand years, is now a mosque. We see it all over India, where thousands of mosques were built on the site of Hindu temples that the Muslim conquerors destroyed.
To see it happening in France under the guise of multiculturalism is all the more bitter, for France wasn’t conquered. France, like other Western countries, did this to itself.
