Mexico went crazy this afternoon when their World Cup soccer team defeated Germany, the defending champs, 1-0.
In fact, they went so bonkers following the lone goal of the match that they caused a mini-earthquake in Mexico City.
Mexican soccer supporters appear to have shaken the Earth a little bit Sunday as they celebrated what turned out to be a decisive goal to defeat reigning champion Germany in an opening match of the World Cup.
According to seismologists and Mexican authorities, when forward Hirving “Chucky” Lozano scored a goal at the 35th minute of the game, a small, artificial earthquake was detected on the Richter scale in Mexico City.
This is the moment that caused an earthquake in Mexico City immediately after Hirving Lozano's goal. 🇲🇽

The U.S. is not participating in the World Cup this year, after having failed to qualify. Corporate America is inconsolable, of course, so many companies have climbed aboard the Mexican bandwagon.
It has been an emotional, painful eight months for U.S. Soccer fans since that fateful loss in Trinidad and Tobago ruled out the men’s national team from competing in their eighth straight World Cup. A number of advertisers are taking the same approach to the situation.
With the U.S.’s absence have come several pushes — from television networks and banks to cars and beers — for American fans to give their support to a team that did manage to navigate the road to Russia: archrival Mexico.
Among those taking part is USMNT legend Landon Donovan in a promotion for Wells Fargo, but not everyone feels his request is appropriate.

Donovan is the all-time leading goal scorer for the U.S. national team and there was some grumbling from Americans that their hero would so easily switch allegiances:
I’d rather cut off my toe than “root for 🇲🇽” & I’m on the outside on this one, but how could I root for my/our rival?! Imagine any 🇨🇱 players rooting for 🇦🇷 today?! I can’t imagine how @AmericanOutlaws would feel if I rooted for Mexico….but then again I’m old school. https://t.co/wN910307vI

Mexico is certainly an underdog and any other team in their position would be worth rooting for.
But Twellman has a good point. When the U.S. team goes to Mexico to play, the Mexican fans are incredibly ill-mannered, vicious louts who boo during the national anthem and scream anti-American epithets at our players. They do not deserve any American support.
Their team played a great game however, and congrats to them.
