Disgraced former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe claims that he was fired by Attorney General Jeff Sessions in order to undermine the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.
“The idea that I was dishonest is just wrong. This is part of an effort to discredit me as a witness,” McCabe told reporters Friday shortly after his dismissal. Some viewed the outgoing deputy director as a potential witness in a probe determining the degree with which Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election.
This is a load of crap. Andrew McCabe was fired because he’s a lying, partisan, devious operative. The FBI’s Office of Professional Responsibility recommended he be fired. He resigned from the FBI after a soon-to-be-released report by DoJ’s inspector general on the handling by the Bureau of the Clinton email investigation found that he was less than forthcoming about several of his actions:
In the draft report, internal investigators conclude McCabe went too far in trying to push back against media reports questioning whether family ties to Democrats could impact his work, particularly when he authorized FBI officials to speak with a reporter about the agency’s investigation into the Clinton Foundation, according to a source familiar with the findings.
But the draft report takes particular issue with how forthcoming McCabe was when Justice Department officials asked him questions about his actions, according to the source.
His firing had nothing to do with the Mueller investigation and everything to do with his inability to tell the truth — especially about his wife’s state Senate campaign that received donations from Hillary Clinton crony Terry McAuliffe. He finally recused himself from the investigation in October 2016, but one has to wonder exactly what he was doing before that time.
The IG apparently wondered the same thing. And after FBI Director Wray was shown the draft IG report, he called McCabe into his office and forced him to resign.
By the time the IG report comes out — probably next month — and the extent of McCabe’s prevarications is revealed, the notion that he was fired to protect Trump and undermine Mueller will be part of the narrative and impossible to change.
