And in local news… the Washington Post decided to relegate this article about the 100th anniversary of Ronald Reagan’s birthday to its Metro Section:
“In the downtown Washington federal building bearing Ronald Reagan’s name, no events are planned until May to mark his 100th birthday, so there will be no parties for him this week in the ballrooms, no new exhibits in the hallways and no commemorative lectures in the auditoriums.
“And good luck finding any sign of him in the building’s three gift shops.”
This is befitting the ungracious attitude of liberal Washingtonians, who would prefer to forget the entire Regan era. Out of spite, many even refuse to call the D.C. airport by its real name, Reagan National Airport. Instead, they like to call it by its old shortened name, “National Airport.”
The Reagan Building, by the way, is not small potatoes. In size it is the second largest federal office building complex in the nation’s capital, just behind the Pentagon. It was built with a personal mandate from the former president that a portion of the building house private sector companies. And in a tip of the hat to free trade, he asked that the building serve as the headquarters for the International Trade Center.
Happy Birthday Ronnie! Too bad you wouldn’t know about it at the Reagan Building.
