2 Recipes for Eating Your Way to Back to the Good Life


In my recent post “How These 3 Simple Principles of a Judeo-Christian Diet Saved My Family” I wrote of our journey back to health, a complete lifestyle shift we’ve dubbed Kosher-Christian.


How ironic is it that the very key to my husband’s recovery is the food he eats, or more accurately, my cooking? Have I told you that I’ve always hated cooking? Now everything’s changed from his health to my cooking. And honestly, I’m loving it.

Soon after he was sentenced to a “skilled, nursing facility” I made an appointment with the dietician. I explained to her that we had come to the belief that nutrition, on a cellular level, was our only ticket to recovery. She agreed. However, in the first week on their “portion control” diet for diabetics, he was constantly hungry. As bad as that was, nothing compared to the moment he got on the scale and discovered he actually gained weight.

That’s when we took matters into our own hands and hired a professional nutritionist. We gave the facility the responsibility of only serving him breakfast (our menu) then my daughter made his lunch and took it to him, and I took his dinner.

Together we followed and created recipes for a low glycemic, anti-inflammatory organic diet, rich with super foods — and chocolate.



As promised, I’ll elaborate a little more of just how we did it. In reality, it is all principle-based and we are still very new to the concept. But here’s the first, seemingly insignificant, yet profound change we made.


We upgraded two fundamental building blocks of life — his water and his salt. Tap water became forbidden. We used filtered water from the AquaLiv Water System that only pulled the impurities and left behind the natural minerals. (More on water in a future post.)

Next we replaced his table salt with Celtic or Himalayan. Notice a pattern? These are vital ingredients but we tried to get as close to the way they were originally designed — with the 85 nutrients still intact. Of course when edema is so severe that “weeping” occurs, salt is the first thing the doctors eliminate. However, everybody needs salt — or rather the array of minerals and iron that the Creator originally endowed it with.

We continue to walk this precarious line. While these two common everyday elements along with the food we eat, are vital to sustain life, they can also become a detriment to our health. But isn’t that the balance we walk in every area of life as we try to live out a Judeo-Christian lifestyle?


Kosher Christian living is just taking the same premise into the food we eat. He created an abundance for us to enjoy and nourish us, but we must beware of man’s corruptive hand and abuse, lest it turns to our detriment.

Then there are the recipes.

I know I tantalized you with chocolate strawberries. So here’s the best no guilt recipe for chocolate — pour it on.

You’ll need: cocoa powder, coconut oil, and Truvia sweetener

  1. Pour 1/4 cup of  coconut oil in a ziplock bag. (Virgin, cold pressed coconut oil is best.)
  2. Add in 1⁄4 cup cocoa powder. (Hersheys actually works great.)
  3. Grind 3-4 tsp. Truvia in a coffee grinder to powder it.
  4. Add to your bag to taste.
  5. Seal it and mash to mix.
  6. Lay flat in the freezer for about 10 minutes.
  7. Take out, break up and enjoy.

Before freezing you can dip chilled strawberries into it. My personal favorite is adding a drop or two of mint. However, pouring it over a glob of peanut butter in a cup is just as amazing.

List of Ingredients:

2 tbsp. Olive Oil

1 Red onion

1 pound Ground turkey (We have also substituted with venison.)

1 box Organic Chicken broth 

1 pound Butternut squash (de-seeded and cut into 1 inch cubes)

1 can Pinto Beans (drained and rinsed)

1 tbsp. Chili powder

1 tbsp. Cumin

2 tsp. Onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste. (Remember to use the Himalayan.)

Dash of Truvia sweetener to taste.

2 cans Fire Roasted crushed tomatoes (You can get these organic.)

1 can Tomato Sauce (We use organic.)

1 Habanero pepper

1 can Green Chilies 

Mrs. Dash Chipotle Seasoning (to taste)

Mrs. Dash Spicy Seasoning  (to taste)

Optional shredded smoked cheese. We use goat cheese.



Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Stir in onion, garlic and ground turkey and cook until done. Break up turkey into fine ground as it cooks.

Add the rest of the ingredients and let simmer until squash is soft. 2 hours is perfect timing to allow all the flavors to blend into a perfect autumn meal.

We love to top it with shredded smoked goat cheese and invite someone over for dinner. (No one ever suspects the goat cheese ;-))
