Jesse Ventura, the former Minnesota governor and marijuana advocate, argued that we need to allow more immigrants from Mexico, because they’re the only ones capable of cleaning up after our recent hurricanes. He alleged that Americans don’t want the post-crisis jobs, like construction work. He said that after a recent storm near his home in Minnesota, all the roofers were Mexican; he says he knows this because he heard Mexican music playing from their stereos. It’s hard to say whether Ventura’s remarks were too immigrant friendly, or if they were racist. He was somehow being both.
