GOP Rep: Virginia Governor May Have Fanned Flames in Charlottesville to Use It as an Election Issue in 2018 or 2020

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) spoke with Fox Business, and said that Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe, a Democrat, may have fanned the flames of bigotry in Charlottesville to use it as an election issue. Gohmert said, “There is a strategy to make race the number one issue in 2018 and 2020. They think it’s their ticket back. But this is going to blow up in their face. We need an investigation as to what happened at Charlottesville. Who paid for the different groups to come in? Who ordered the funneling of those groups together? Who ordered the standby while the violence goes on?” If even a percentage of this is true, these allegations are awful. It means local Democrats conspired to create violence, to use it as a campaign issue against President Trump and the Republicans, and that this violence resulted in the death of a woman and several people getting injured. These allegations would imply criminal action.

If the local government had a hand in raising these tensions, they certainly got an ear full for it. Protesters chanted “shame” in the middle of the Charlottesville city council meeting.
