Right before saying that white supremacists have no friend in the White House, Attorney General Jeff Sessions wouldn’t tell CBS News whether his home state of Alabama should take down its Confederate statues. The issue that sparked the Charlottesville neo-Nazi riots and led to a vehicular attack was whether a Confederate statue should be torn down. Critics of the Trump administration would probably want the attorney general to give his full-throated support for removing any references to the Confederacy. But he feels like it’s an issue for the individual states to decide.
