Secretary of State Rex Tillerson held an on-camera press briefing today and responded to a hostile question from NBC’s Andrea Mitchell. She asked him if, when the president tweets or uses social media, he is creating an obstacle to the United States’ diplomatic efforts. Tillerson responded, “I don’t view it as an obstacle, a hindrance, or as an assistance.” Essentially, he’s saying it’s net neutral.
What Mitchell and several of her media colleagues fail to understand is that the president of the United States sets the diplomatic and foreign affairs polices for the United States; Tillerson works for him. It is almost impossible for Trump to impede Tillerson’s policies, because his policies and his position are at the pleasure of the president.
