Poll: Hillary Trusted More than Trump to 'Make America Great'

A new poll from AP-GfK reveals that more voters think Hillary Clinton will “make America great” than Donald Trump.

Even when asked which of the two candidates would be best at “making American great” — the central promise of Trump’s campaign — Americans are slightly more likely to side with Clinton, according to a new Associated Press-GfK poll.

And Clinton beats out Trump in almost every other area as well.

The former first lady beats out Trump on:

  • handling the economy
  • handling immigration
  • protecting the country
  • handling health care
  • handling the US image abroad
  • filling Supreme Court vacancies
  • handling international trade
  • handling ISIS threat
  • working with Congress
  • making America great
  • handling gender equality

Clinton barely beats Trump on economic issues; she is trusted by 1% more on the issue of creating jobs and 3% more on the economy. Trump is also weak among registered Republicans.

Trump’s support with registered Republican voters is also soft on some issues, with less than 50 percent saying they trust him over Clinton on working with Congress or handling the U.S. image abroad. About a quarter of Republicans say they trust neither candidate on either of those issues.

Said one independent-leaning Republican who would “absolutely not” trust Trump, “I think he would have the U.S. in wars at the drop of a hat. He would make the international community angry at the United States. He has a lot of comments on issues, but he has no solutions.”

The AP-GfK Poll of 1,076 adults was conducted online March 31-April 4, using a sample drawn from GfK’s probability-based KnowledgePanel, which is designed to be representative of the U.S. population. The margin of sampling error for all respondents is plus or minus 3.3 percentage points.
