Ravelry, a company that describes itself as a community of knitters and crocheters, announced Sunday that its website is erasing President Trump — banning any and all expressions of support for the duly elected president of the United States.
Not being a crafter myself, I had never heard of Ravelry—a site that boasts 8 million users. The announcement was brought to my attention by a reader who uses the site. “Not even crafting is safe,” she lamented in an email to PJM.
Indeed, it appears that social justice warriors have taken control of the site, which is the go-to source on the internet for crafting, knitting, and crocheting patterns.
According to an announcement at Ravelry’s website, “We are banning support of Donald Trump and his administration on Ravelry.” The company says the ban was inspired by a policy at role-playing site RPG.net. (Something similar happened at SQLite, the world’s largest database engine, after SJWs demanded a code of conduct. Founder Richard Hipp responded by posting “The Rule of St. Benedict,” sparking outrage.)
The ban includes “support in the form of forum posts, projects, patterns, profiles, and all other content.” The company assures users that if they get booted from the site for supporting Trump, “we will make sure that you have access to your data.” How good of them.
The reason for the ban, according to Ravelry, is that “We cannot provide a space that is inclusive of all and also allow support for open white supremacy. Support of the Trump administration is undeniably support for white supremacy.”
The word “inclusive,” it would seem, has been redefined in true leftist Orwellian fashion to mean “excluding half the country.” The 44.6 percent of Americans who approve of Trump are all — every last one — white supremacists, according to Ravelry. Got that, America? If you support Trump, you’re a vile racist and you’d better keep your mouth shut — if you know what’s good for you.
The site goes on to explain the new censorship rules:
- You can still participate if you do in fact support the administration, you just can’t talk about it here.
- We are not endorsing the Democrats nor banning Republicans.
- We are definitely not banning conservative politics. Hate groups and intolerance are different from other types of political positions.
- We are not banning people for past support.
- Do not try to weaponize this policy by entrapping people who do support the Trump administration into voicing their support.
- Similarly, antagonizing conservative members for their unstated positions is not acceptable.
“We are not endorsing Democrats…” but of course, they are. They’re not banning support for Joe Biden, Pete Buttigieg, or any of the other 8,564 Democratic presidential candidates (including the newly minted Joe Sestak) or the corrupt Clintons or the scandal-plagued Barack Obama. Only the Republican president and his supporters are not allowed to speak.
But at least the benevolent overlords at Ravelry will not boot you off the platform for past support for Trump. Everyone makes mistakes, after all, and with proper rehabilitation—perhaps by flying the LGBTQ flag and performing a half-dozen Hail Margaret Sangers— a past supporter can gain absolution and find redemption at Ravelry.

Ravelry is a private company—it can ban whomever it wants, but let’s not miss the hypocrisy:

What that PC mumbo-jumbo has to do with knitting is anyone’s guess.
I’ve said this before and I’ll continue to repeat it: Leftism is a religion— the LGBTQ agenda and abortion are their sacraments. Anyone who does not demonstrate proper fealty to the progressive articles of faith must be silenced and marginalized. Not even knitting is safe from the atheist Neo-Puritans. Heretics must be shamed, their craftcrimes sent down the memory hole.
