The Ohio State University marching band has achieved international acclaim for their innovative and mind-boggling halftime shows. Unlike most football fans, those at “The Horseshoe” stadium in Columbus don’t head for the restrooms or food stands during halftime. Most remain in their seats, waiting to see what the all brass and percussion band has up their sleeves. They’re never disappointed.

A signature formation for the OSU band is the iconic Script Ohio, performed before every home game to Robert Planquette’s “Le Régiment de Sambre et Meuse.” It’s a tricky endeavor, led by a drum major and culminating in the dramatic, crowd-pleasing dotting of the ‘i’ in Ohio by a fourth or fifth year Sousaphone player, who tips his hat to the cheering fans.

Last week, The Ohio State School for the Blind’s marching band joined The Ohio State University Marching Band on the field for the Script Ohio, spelling out “Ohio” in Braille. The drum major of the world’s only blind marching band even led The Ohio State University Marching Band in the traditional Script Ohio! As anyone who’s marched in formation can tell you, this isn’t easy to do when you’re fully sighted. It’s quite an accomplishment for someone who’s vision is impaired. The smile on his face will make your day!
