Harris: 'Nobody Should Have to Work More Than One Job'

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), a Democratic presidential candidate, argued that the U.S. economy is not working for the middle class, despite the current record-low unemployment rate.

“He [Trump] is going around crowing about how this economy is doing so well, right? ‘Oh, the economy is great,’ he says, right? And then you ask, ‘well, how are you measuring the so-called greatness of this economy of yours?’ And they point to the stock market. Well, that’s fine if you own stocks — 72 percent of the stocks in America are owned by the top 10 percent,” Harris said during a campaign stop in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, on Sunday.

“And they refer to the unemployment numbers. Well, yeah, I’m traveling our country and let me tell you something, yeah, people are working. They’re working two and three jobs and in our America, we must agree nobody should have to work more than one job to have a roof over their head and food on the table in the America we believe in,” she added.

Harris pledged to eliminate the tax reform package President Trump signed into law in December 2017, which she said would help pay for her tax plan. Under her proposal, households earning less than $100,000 per year would receive up to a $6,000 tax credit.
