Celebrities including Michael J. Fox, Matthew Perry, and Tim Daly answered questions from PJ Media about the political process at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner over the weekend.
Actor Michael J. Fox told PJ Media that he supports all of his presidents but thinks there will be a “long wait” before the White House and Congress work together to tackle issues.
“I support all my presidents, absolutely,” Fox said.
“I’d like to see them [president and Congress] move a little in cooperation a little bit more. It’d be nice to see. Everyone always says they’re going to be able to do it and it never happens so I’d like to see that but it looks to be a long wait.”
Actor Matthew Perry, who describes himself as a “big supporter” of President Obama’s agenda, said he is focused on his Washington advocacy work for drug courts.
“I was just talking to Al Franken, who’s doing the same thing for mental health, which is great so that people don’t just get thrown away into prison, they can get a chance to rehabilitate which is a wonderful thing,” said Perry, adding that he “might have an audience” with Vice President Joe Biden on the issue in the next few weeks.
Actor Tim Daly wants Congress to focus on repealing the Citizens United Supreme Court decision.
“I would love to see them repeal Citizens United, that would be the first thing that should happen, that might make our electoral process a little better. I don’t know that they can do that but they should put a little pressure on the Supreme Court. I would like to see them resolve this ridiculous sequester situation,” said Daly.
An amendment to the U.S. Constitution to overturn Citizens United would have to be ratified by three-fourths of the states.
Actresses Kate Walsh and Olivia Munn also gave their opinion of President Obama’s job performance.
“I’m satisfied with President Obama. I’m not so satisfied with Congress. I’d like to some gun-control regulations,” said Walsh.
“I think you have to be supportive of our president. I mean I don’t know what it’s like to be the president and how hard that is so I’m a big supporter of Obama. It’s hard to be the one to criticize so you just try to support instead,” said Munn.
