Far-left billionaire and political donor George Soros lavished praise on Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) on Friday, calling her the “most qualified to be president.” He also predicted a Warren presidency.
The liberal kingmaker said he was not endorsing any candidate in the 2020 presidential race, so he could support whichever candidate the Democratic Party nominates against President Donald Trump.
In an interview with The New York Times, Soros called Trump “an aberration,” accusing the president of “clearly putting his personal interests ahead of the national interests. I think it will contribute to his demise next year. So I am slightly predicting that things will turn around.”
He predicted that Warren — who has emerged as a co-frontrunner with former Vice President Joe Biden in recent weeks — would become the Democratic nominee.
“She has emerged as the clear-cut person to beat,” Soros told the Times. “I don’t take a public stance, but I do believe that she is the most qualified to be president.”
He insisted that he was not endorsing Warren: “I’m not endorsing anybody because I want to work with whoever,” he said. “I don’t express my views generally because I have to live with whoever the electorate chooses.”
Warren has adopted many of the big-government policies advocated by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who openly calls himself a “democratic socialist.” Last weekend, Democratic rising star and fellow “democratic socialist” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) endorsed Sanders in the 2020 Democratic primary.
Last month, Democratic donors in the business community warned that if Warren becomes the nominee, they would sit out the race — or even donate to Trump’s reelection campaign! Like Sanders, Warren supports socialized medicine (Medicare for All), a radical back-to-the-stone-age climate reform similar to the Green New Deal, a wealth tax, and many more radical proposals. She has also called for the breakup of Big Tech companies like Facebook and Google. Wall Street donors may see the wealth tax as the biggest threat to their financial securities, but her candidacy is a grave threat to America’s free-market system — the very system through which Soros gained his wealth.
When asked about the wealth tax, Soros replied point-blank, “I am in favor of taxing the rich, including a wealth tax.” The far-left kingmaker has long advocated big-government policies that verge on socialism, if not worse.
Soros’s support for Warren seems ideologically fitting. Warren is running as the more down-to-earth Bernie Sanders.
Besides her radicalism, which Soros considers an asset, Warren’s biggest problem is her deceptive past — and present. She long benefitted from claiming a Native American heritage — from publishing a “Cherokee” cookbook to claiming minority status on applications — and at the most recent debate she refused to answer the simple question of whether or not she would raise taxes on the middle class.
Soros is right: As of now, it looks like Warren is most likely to become the Democratic nominee. PJ Media’s Roger Simon warned that the nomination is hers to lose. The billionaire’s praise should also confirm Roger Simon’s other point — Warren’s electoral strength is terrifying.
Soros is a notoriously liberal donor, contributing heavily to all sorts of far-left causes. His Open Society Foundations has bankrolled the organizations trying to blacklist conservatives on social media.
Sadly, many have demonized Soros’ critics by suggesting that anyone who disagrees with the liberal donor — who happens to be Jewish — may be motivated by anti-Semitism.
In his interview with The New York Times‘s Andrew Ross Sorkin, Soros said, “I’m very proud of the enemies I have. It’s a perfect way to tell a dictator or a would-be dictator if he identifies me as an enemy.”
Sorkin added, “The list of people who do seem to think of Mr. Soros as an enemy includes President Trump and his personal lawyer Rudolph Giuliani, the government of China, and an uncountable number of conspiracy theorists.”
The Times writer acknowledged that objections to Soros “stem from his backing of liberal causes and super PACs that opposed Mr. Trump and supported Democratic candidates like Hillary Clinton,” but he also suggested that Soros’s contributions through the Open Society Foundations are benign, supporting “democracy and human rights in some 120 countries, often opposing autocratic regimes.” Then he added, “There’s also a substantial amount of anti-Semitism directed toward Mr. Soros, who was born into a Jewish family in Hungary.”
Soros is a radical leftist, and it is not anti-Semitic to say so. The billionaire has supported some noble causes, but he has also backed far-left attempts to bully social media into silencing conservative organizations by calling them “hate groups.”
His support for Warren makes sense because both are threats to American freedom.
