Oregon Ice Cream Shop Partners With Abortion Group NARAL With 'Rocky Roe v. Wade' Flavor

As the abortion activist group NARAL started ramping up its opposition to President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, the abortion giant secured a new kind of corporate public partner. The ice cream shop “What’s the Scoop?” announced a new limited-time flavor: “Rocky Roe v. Wade.” Yes, the shop is celebrating the Supreme Court decision that legalized the killing of millions of unborn babies.

In a series of tweets first reported by Medium’s Jonathan Lockwood and previously noted by Oregon Business, NARAL’s Oregon chapter announced its new partnership with glee.

“We’ve partnered with [What’s the Scoop?] by offering ice cream pints for sale for a limited time only, including a new custom flavor made exclusively for NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon: Rocky Roe v. Wade! Order yours now & help defend reproductive freedom!” NARAL tweeted, with the hashtag “save Roe.”

The group’s executive director, Grayson Dempsey, urged followers to order the ice cream now, with the hashtag “Ice cream for president!”

NARAL does indeed celebrate the killing of unborn babies with cries of “Shout your abortion!” However, this campaign seems less focused on giving feticide good press and more focused on stopping Kavanaugh.

A brief glimpse at NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon’s Twitter feed should reveal why it is so keen on giving the Roe v. Wade (1973) Supreme Court decision some positive publicity. Like other radical left groups, NARAL is terrified that Kavanaugh would overturn the decision that made abortion legal. NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon has many tweets featuring two hashtags: “Stop Kavanaugh,” and “Save Roe.”

Last month, the account shared an op-ed by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) sounding the alarm that Kavanaugh would overturn Roe v. Wade.

Like most liberals terrified of Kavanaugh, NARAL has the situation all wrong. Liberals cannot help but see Supreme Court justices as super-legislators, using the Court to make new law. This is not the role of a Supreme Court justice, although in the days since the New Deal, liberal justices have indeed read new rights into the Constitution, including Roe‘s right to abortion and the right to same-sex marriage in Obergefell v. Hodges (2015).

Nowhere in the Constitution did the founders — or the authors of the amendments — create a right to abortion or same-sex marriage. The very idea of such “rights” would have been anathema to them. Indeed, Roe v. Wade rooted the right to abortion in the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, and at the very same time the states were passing that amendment, they were tightening — not loosening — their laws against killing unborn babies.

Kavanaugh is likely to be confirmed to the Supreme Court, and when he is, he will not be allowed to willy nilly overturn settled precedent. The Court only considers between 60 and 80 cases every year, and the abortion case in question would have to be just right for the Court to even consider altering the Roe decision.

Furthermore, striking down previous Supreme Court decisions that involved judicial activism is not itself activism, but returning to the basic meaning of the Constitution.

Finally, and this may be the most important point, overturning Roe v. Wade would not make abortion illegal — it would allow the states to have their own separate laws on abortion. This would enable each state to pass its own protections on the lives of unborn infants, and it would enable local voters to hold their representatives accountable on a local level, which is much more representative of what the people actually want.

Sadly, liberal PR campaigns like this one gloss over all these important issues, giving Americans a wrong understanding of Kavanaugh, the Supreme Court, and what actually happened with Roe v. Wade.

This disgusting campaign of celebrating abortion via ice cream merits a response from a pro-life organization. Perhaps a pro-life group should sponsor a flavor: “Deb Nucatola Nutella,” a reminder of the Planned Parenthood sting videos, documenting the sale of aborted baby body parts. Dr. Deborah Nucatola, senior director of medical services at Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA), gruesomely described killing an unborn baby by ripping apart its body, but leaving certain parts in tact for later sale.

Given the ongoing legal battle between the National Abortion Federation and the undercover journalist David Daleiden, such a response would be rather fitting.
