Via The Hill:

Khizr Khan, the father of a Muslim U.S. soldier who was killed in the Iraq War, said he is done giving interviews after a week in the national spotlight blasting Donald Trump.

“Enough is enough,” he told CNN on Tuesday night. “We are not going to participate in this tit for tat.”
Khan’s son, Army Capt. Humayun Khan, was killed by a suicide bomber in 2004.

Khan made an appearance at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia last week alongside his wife, blasting Trump for his rhetoric toward Muslims in a speech that drew national attention.

The Gold Star father gave several interviews in the following days, saying that the GOP presidential nominee lacks empathy and has a “black soul.” Trump responded, saying he was “viciously attacked” and questioning whether Khan’s wife, Ghazala Khan, was forbidden to speak at the convention because of her religion.

It has been all the rage in recent days to take Trump to task for not letting this story, and the criticism was legitimate. The turmoil at the DNC and the anger among the Sanders fans after the dog and pony show unity convention should have been dominating headlines this week but Trump gave them yet another gift.

On the other hand, the Khans haven’t gone out of their way to let the story fade either. There’s a good chance they’ve been somewhat unwittingly manipulated by the Democrats and the media, as that is rather easy to do when people are being blinded by the spotlight. Given the cover it has provided the Democrats and their nominee in recent days, that theory isn’t very outlandish.

The ball is in Trump’s court now. Let’s see if he throws it aside and looks for a different game elsewhere, or manages to keep playing Campaign Self-Sabotage just because he wants to.
