Double Standard for Public School Teachers Who Hold Extremist Views

A 25-year old public school teacher from Florida has been exposed as a white supremacist by HuffPost.

The woman, Dayanna Volitich, a social studies teacher at Crystal River Middle School in Florida, made clear in a series of tweets and other social media posts that she adheres to a white supremacist philosophy. She also bragged in a podcast that she has kept her political beliefs hidden from school district administrators.

In her most recent podcast on Feb. 26, a guest railed against diversity in schools, dismissing the idea that “a kid from Nigeria and a kid who came from Sweden are supposed to learn exactly the same” and have the “same IQ.” Volitich enthusiastically agreed with the guest, and went on to argue that “science” has proven that certain races are smarter than others.

In the same episode, Volitich boasted about bringing her white nationalist beliefs into the classroom and hiding her ideology from administrators. She said that when parents complained to the school’s principal about how she is injecting political bias into the classroom, Volitich lied to the principal and said it was not true.

“She believed me and backed off,” she said.

Volitich also agreed with her guest’s assertion that more white supremacists need to infiltrate public schools and become teachers. “They don’t have to be vocal about their views, but get in there!” her guest said. “Be more covert and just start taking over those places.”

“Right,” Volitich said. “I’m absolutely one of them.”

After HuffPost made inquiries about Volitich’s white nationalism to the Citrus County School District on Friday, “Tiana Dalichov” tweeted that she “might disappear for a while” and then set her account to private. She also scrubbed the website for her podcast.

Clearly, this woman should be let nowhere near kids of any age and should be fired immediately by the district.

But what is rarely discussed — certainly not on the HuffPost website — are the dozens of public school teachers around the country who claim affiliation with the violent group Antifa.

The FBI and Department of Homeland Security began paying closer attention to Antifa groups in general after BAMN and other extremists started a riot and attacked marchers at a white nationalist rally in Sacramento last July, Politico reported on Friday. The Sacramento violence left at least 10 people hospitalized, several of whom had knife wounds.

One of BAMN’s most prominent organizers is Yvette Felarca, a Berkeley middle school teacher and pro-violence militant. Felarca currently faces charges of inciting a riot for her role in the Sacramento violence.

After BAMN and other antifa groups staged violent protests in Berkeley to keep right-wing author Milo Yiannopoulos from speaking, Felarca defended her group’s acts of violence. BAMN was able to cancel another event, this time an April speech by pro-Trump author Ann Coulter, by promising a repeat performance of the Milo riots.

Some Antifa teachers actually lead protests involving students:

AMN organizer and high school teacher Nicole Conaway organized a “sickout” at her school in 2015, leading other teachers in calling in sick to protest the policies of Republican Gov. Rick Snyder. The sickout forced six Detroit-area schools to cancel classes, affecting nearly 4,000 students.

One month later, Conaway led students in a school walkout protesting poor building conditions. She was one of three BAMN organizers arrested in connection with the protest. Other BAMN members have led similar protests at the schools where they teach.

Needless to say, there are probably many times more Antifa teachers in our public schools than white supremacists. So why does a violent hate group like Antifa get a pass from school administrators when a teacher like Dayanna Volitich is almost certainly going to be fired — and rightfully so?

Many radicals do not see themselves as radical. Hence, they don’t see anything wrong with radical members of Antifa teaching in schools — even if they preach violence toward political opponents. I think this demonstrates the trouble we are in regarding the indoctrination of our children more powerfully than almost anything else. Many school administrators are oblivious to teachers who spread hatred and promote violence because they largely agree with them.

Extremists of any stripe should never get jobs teaching kids, whether district authorities agree with them or not.
