In a recent interview, Williamson said, “I didn’t think the left was so mean. I didn’t think the left lied like this. I thought the right did that, I thought we were better.”

A hot mic video of Williamson saying conservatives have treated her better than the left has surfaced online.

“What does it say that Fox News is nicer to me than the lefties are? What does it say that the conservatives are nicer to me,” she said in the video. “I’m a serious lefty — but I understand why people on the right call them ‘godless.’ I didn’t think the left is as mean as the right. They are.”

Williamson was asked if she was referring to something specific in the video.

“The left is not a monolith. I’m left. I was just — I’m reading Twitter sometimes too much and there have been some journalists who, I think, I could say lack some journalistic ethics, a lot of mischaracterizations of me, even lying about me, obvious political hits and I’ve felt that. I was mentioning it on a hot mic obviously, it happens,” she said during an interview after appearing at an MSNBC climate forum at Georgetown University on Thursday.

“People are saying that I said I understood that they have said they’re [Democrats] godless — that’s not what I’ve said. I said I understand they’ve called me godless all the years, people who didn’t like my books or whatever — that’s all. Listen, I am a Democrat and I am a lefty you know,” she added.

Williamson continued, “The thing I do feel strongly about is we’re not going to win this election by mocking people of faith — not just me — a lot of people, that’s all.”

Williamson, well-known as Oprah’s spiritual advisor, was asked if she has sought Oprah’s endorsement for president.

“No, no, even if I had, I wouldn’t tell you, no. Oprah will do what Oprah — thank you,” she responded.
