You’d think that Fusion GPS founders Glenn R. Simpson and Peter Fritsch would have the good sense and decency to keep their mouths shut for a couple of years, now that the entire world knows that their “opposition research” into the Trump campaign was one big sham. Sadly, the two men beg to differ. They’ve actually written an op-ed for British newspaper The Guardian in which they demand a Mueller-type investigation on Russian interference in… British politics.
No, that is not a joke. “The British political system has become thoroughly compromised by Russian influence,” the two internationally known sleazeballs write. “It’s high time its institutions – including the media – woke up to that fact. In 2016, both the United Kingdom and the United States were the targets of Russian efforts to swing their votes. The aim was to weaken the alliances that had constrained Vladimir Putin’s ambitions, such as the European Union and Nato.”
In the United States, Simpson and Fritsch argue, the Russian “interference” was aimed at helping Donald J. Trump get elected. In Britain, however, the Russians had a different goal: to get British voters to support Brexit. Of course, Simpson and Fritsch, charge, Moscow was “aided by a transatlantic cast of characters loosely organised around the Trump and Brexit campaigns.”
Oh yes, here we go: the two men are about to smear yet more innocent patriots.
“Britain needs its own Mueller report: a full, independent and public accounting of Russian efforts to interfere in its politics. Few people will look forward to this process in a country already exhausted from fighting over Brexit. But it’s essential to halt Russia’s attack on Britain’s democracy and restore confidence in its politics,” they continue.
Now, there’s something very interesting going on here. As we all know, Simpson and Fritsch are founders of Fusion GPS, an opposition research firm. That’s what they get paid to do. Their smearing of the Trump campaign was funded by, first, a conservative website and later the DNC. Are they being paid again? If so, who’s paying them? If not, that’d be important to know.
More importantly, however, than all of that is the following: the Mueller report and Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s report have shown, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that Fusion GPS’s investigation was based on little more than lies, innuendo, and drunken gossip. To a very large degree, Simpson and Fritsch are responsible for the terrible days many Trump campaign advisers have had. They’ve been accused of being Russian agents, the president himself had to explain to his wife that, no, he didn’t let prostitutes pee on a hotel bed in Moscow, and Americans’ trust in their political system has been deeply undermined.
Simpson and Fritsch are quite simply evil men. Evil. It tells us all we need to know about The Guardian that the newspaper published their ridiculous op-ed.
