Political commentators in the rest of the world frequently wonder why Marine Le Pen and her populist Front National continue to rise in the polls in France. Well, I’m guessing news like this may have something to do with it.

Police in south west France have arrested a man suspected of having planned an attack on New Year’s eve, a police source said on Wednesday.

Two other people, one of whom is suspected of having planned an attack on police, were arrested in another police raid in south west France, in Toulouse, the police source said.

In what comes as a surprise to exactly no one, the police source also says that the man arrested in Cugnaux “is known to (police) services.” In other words, like Berlin butcher Anis Amri, the suspect was being watched by the authorities. Unlike the Germans, however, the French decided to actually do something about it.

Now that’s a novel idea!

While the first suspect — dare we call him a radical Islamic wannabe terrorist or will that cause the politically correct left to freak out once again? — planned to carry out his attack on New Year’s Eve, the other two suspects intended to slaughter as many people as they possibly could on December 3.

Thank God the French were able to prevent these attacks. However, the arrests don’t mean that France can breathe a sigh of relief. According to the authorities, the terror threat is still very high.
