I have been pretty disappointed with “the future” we are inhabiting. I was promised flying cars and robot maids. Instead, all we seem to have is boys in the girls’ locker rooms and politicians banning plastic straws. Until today, that is. Because today I learned that some genius somewhere has invented garbage cans that take themselves to the curb.

Now this is the kind of innovation and cool stuff I expected to see in the 2000s. According to the SmartCan website, “Andrew Murray is the founder and CEO of Resi. Resi’s first product is SmartCan, a smart home device that delivers your trash to the curb on trash day…Andrew developed SmartCan with the intention of providing a smart home device similar to the Roomba that automates a user’s chore that everyone hates, while also improving waste management and reducing the pollution that is caused by forgetting trash day.”

Sign me up! Critics have pointed out to me that they’re certain that this technology intends to kill us and dispose of our bodies to the self-driving garbage trucks that are sure to follow. Maybe. But it might be worth it not to have to drag the garbage to the curb.
