Congressman Joaquin Castro says he grew his beard to avoid being confused with his twin brother (and amusingly inept presidential candidate) Julian. But I’m starting to wonder if the Texas Dem grew it to cushion the blow when he steps on all those rakes.
The other day, Castro tweeted the following in an attempt to shame people who have donated to Trump. I’ve cropped out their names, because unlike Rep. Castro, I respect the privacy of these people.
Calling out your own constituents by name for donating to the other party is a bad idea for a lot of reasons, which is why most politicians don’t do it. But now there’s a whole new reason Joaquin Castro is a dummy.
Trump donors whose names and employers were posted in a highly controversial tweet by Democratic Rep. Joaquin Castro blasted the Texas congressman on Wednesday for what they described as a “ridiculous” stunt and, in interviews with Fox News, rejected his claim that they are “fueling a campaign of hate” against Hispanics.
One of those Trump donors even revealed he’s also been a supporter of local Democratic lawmakers—including Castro himself.
Wayne Harwell, the owner of a local real estate development company whose name appeared on the list Castro shared on Monday night, told Fox News in a phone interview that he donated money to Castro’s congressional campaign.
Harwell, who describes himself as an independent, donated $1,000 to Castro back in 2011. He sure won’t make that mistake again.
It’s incredibly stupid for a politician to publicly shame individuals by name for supporting his opponents. Castro claims he didn’t intend for any of these people to be harassed:

Willie Geist: “But that’s what will happen.”

Even if his intentions were noble, which is vanishingly unlikely, I don’t know what he thinks he’s accomplishing. He’s not going to persuade anybody by doing this. The only people who like it are the ones who already agree with him. None of the Trump donors he named are going to start supporting Democrats instead, and he’s already alienated at least one of his own donors who used to swing both ways.
The only hearts and minds Castro is changing are the people who didn’t have much of an opinion about him before this, but who now think he’s a complete dick.
Wow, who could’ve predicted that a guy named Castro would be such a vindictive, authoritarian moron who hates the very people he’s supposed to represent?
