Florida Congresswoman Frederica Wilson seems to be enjoying the media spotlight after she crassly politicized President Trump’s call to grieving widow Myeshia Johnson. Wilson on Thursday laughed off White House chief of staff John Kelly’s emotional remarks in the White House briefing room earlier in the day.

Johnson’s husband, Sgt. La David T. Johnson, 25, of Miami Gardens, Fla., was one of four U.S. soldiers who was killed in Niger when their patrol was ambushed.

General Kelly earlier Thursday said he was “stunned and brokenhearted” by Wilson’s criticism of the president’s call. Kelly, a Gold Star parent himself, said he was in the room when the president made the call “offering condolences in the best way he could” after consulting him.

“A member of Congress who listened in on a phone call from the president of the United States to a young wife, and in his way tried to express that opinion that he’s a brave man, a fallen hero. He knew what he was getting himself into because he enlisted,” the former Marine Corps general said.

Kelly’s son, Marine 1st Lt. Robert Kelly, was killed in 2010 while serving in Afghanistan.

“There’s no reason to enlist. He enlisted, and he was where he wanted to be, exactly where he wanted to be with exactly the people he wanted to be with when his life was taken. That was the message,” Kelly explained. “That was the message that was transmitted.”

He dismissed Wilson as “an empty barrel.”

Miami 7 News caught up with Wilson on Miami Dade College’s North Campus Thursday afternoon where she had a few words to say about Kelly’s remarks.

The congresswoman appeared to be amused by the whole thing.

“You mean to tell me that I’ve become so important that the White House is following me and my words?” she laughed. “This is amazing. That’s amazing. I’ll have to tell my kids that I’m a rock star now.”
