This morning during Donald Trump’s well-received address before the national convention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, military vets hollered “Lock her up!!!” at the mention of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s name. Clinton drew a chilly response from the thousands of military veterans when she spoke at the event in Charlotte, North Carolina, yesterday.
The VFW delegates were polite — as requested by their commander earlier in the day — but little more.
There was no mass exodus, as rumored in parts of the room, when Clinton took the stage. But neither was there much enthusiasm — even when Clinton called for better health benefits and increased opportunities for all who have served. Her best applause lines, when she criticized Republican nominee Donald Trump without actually naming him, drew largely muted reactions.
Hillary chose to passive aggressively attack Trump without mentioning him by name, but as the Daily Mail noted today, “the billionaire didn’t return the favor.”
‘The other candidate in this race, you know her name – crooked Hillary Clinton – and believe me folks, she is crooked … recently said of the VA scandal that it’s not as widespread as it’s puported to be. It’s like she’s trying to sweep it under the rug,’ he said.
‘We know how she takes care of the veterans. Just look at her invading of Libya and her handling of Benghazi. A disaster … and her emails put our entire national security at risk.’At the mention of possible exposure of America’s state secrets, three veterans in different parts of the hall yelled, ‘Lock her up!’ – a line that became the unofficial slogan of last week’s Republican National Convention.
Loud boos followed.‘And to think she was here yesterday!’ Trump ad-libbed. ‘I guess she didn’t do very well.’
Trump made a pitch for veterans to abandon career politicians who he said were responsible for lapses in veterans’ health care.
‘We can’t fix a rigged system by electing the people who rigged it in the first place,’ he said.

The phrase “Lock her up!” seems to have captured the imagination of anti-Hillary forces all across America. We heard it first from delegates at the RNC, then protesting Bernie Sanders supporters, and now we hear it from U.S. military veterans at the VFW. It seems clear now that the menacing message will haunt Clinton from now until election day.
