Here's What Ronald Reagan Said About Hate Groups in 1981

Sometimes I wish the current leader of the Republican Party more closely resembled the GOP’s previous superstars. Abraham Lincoln ended slavery, Eisenhower signed the Civil Rights Act, and Ronald Reagan made this statement to the NAACP in 1981. First of all, when was the last time a Republican was invited to speak to the NAACP? But secondly, let’s take a look at the no-nonsense denouncement of bigotry that he issued. Compare that to President Trump’s weak, morally equivocating statement, when he said that there were “fine people” on both sides of the Charlottesville. Republicans claim to honor Reagan above all other recent presidents; well it’s time to start acting like it.
