When the World Series-winning Washington Nationals visit the White House on Monday, the team will be short one member. Closer Sean Doolittle has told the Washington Post that he prefers to stay home. What’s more, according to the newspaper report, more teammates are considering doing the same.
“There’s a lot of things, policies that I disagree with, but at the end of the day, it has more to do with the divisive rhetoric and the enabling of conspiracy theories and widening the divide in this country,” Doolittle said. “My wife and I stand for inclusion and acceptance, and we’ve done work with refugees, people that come from, you know, the ‘s—hole countries.’ At the end of the day, as much as I wanted to be there with my teammates and share that experience with my teammates, I can’t do it.”
Just for the record, he repeated that last part: “I just can’t do it.”
What’s more, Doolittle told the WaPo, he also is angry with Trump for supposedly violating the Fair Housing Act in the past (haha, OMG), his treatment of the Central Park Five (sigh), his mocking once of a disabled reporter, and his comments regarding the rally in Charlottesville, where white supremacists were among the protesters.
When told that many athletes go to the White House regardless of their views of the president himself, Doolittle answered that to him, this isn’t about respecting the office of the president; Trump himself has supposedly shown no respect for it.
“People say you should go because it’s about respecting the office of the president,” Doolittle said. “And I think over the course of his time in office he’s done a lot of things that maybe don’t respect the office.”
Finally, he accused Trump of empowering racists. They may never have gone away, but because of Trump, “they feel like they have a path, maybe. I don’t want to hang out with somebody who talks like that.”
Ah well, this was to be expected. Doolittle has long been known to be a far-left hack. As such, it can’t possibly come as much of a shock or surprise to anyone. He’ll undoubtedly be joined by a few other wackos who think they have to show the world just how woke they are.

What’s rather interesting, though, is that the first one who says he won’t go is a white, millionaire liberal. Perhaps that should be food for thought for Doolittle.
Of course, Doolittle can do whatever the heck he pleases. He’s an athlete. Like many other people, I couldn’t care less about his political views. What’s more, you have to wonder why a World Series winner even visits the White House. It’s not as if they’ve become world champions. The World Series is a megalomanic misnomer for a title that refers to a team that is the best of America (and perhaps Canada), not of the world. And why a national champion should meet the president is beyond me. After all, do all national 100-meters, 200-meters, 400-meters, 800-meters etc. athletes get an invitation? Or how about the national wrestling champions in their different weight classes? Boxing champions? Karate champions? Speedskating champions?
I didn’t think so. If they did, the president would have to meet a champion every day, which would be rather ludicrous.
Don’t get me wrong. The Nationals had a great season, they won a great title. But deserving of visiting the White House and meeting the president they are not.
