I am a little ashamed to admit that I spent hours as a youngster rolling around laughing hysterically at some tapes someone gave me with The Jerky Boys on them pranking people over the phone. Yes, I said cassette tapes. I’m old. They looked like this (for the Zoomers out there who have never seen one):
We used to use them to tell boys we liked them or were breaking up with them over Sting ballads and Debbie Gibson wailing. It was the old social media. Whatever comedian was making the old people nervous would be on one of these and we would trade them around like contraband. It was glorious.
Back then when there was very little to do other than ride bikes and be human beings instead of Android and Apple slaves, prank calling was one of the highest forms of entertainment. DJs even used to do it live, on the air, on radio stations until the FCC made it stop (killjoys). I was reminded of this old-school fun when a man walked into a Walmart recently and asked the sweet lady at the help desk to page a friend. You have to watch this to believe it. I hope this adorable woman has seen this and laughed because it’s the funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time. It brought me back to my teen bedroom floor with my pink Casio bubble radio playing those coveted tapes.

My favorite part was when she assures the prankster that she will call for Mr. Clinton Killedepstein again if he doesn’t show. Thank you, sir. Thank you, Walmart help desk lady. This was what we all needed today.
