Something happened over the past few weeks that no one in the Democrat Party seems prepared to handle. One man's bank wealth did something so unprecedented that it sent elected officials into a public meltdown, comparing him to criminals, demanding his fortune be seized, and openly fantasizing about a world where his kind of success simply isn't allowed to exist anymore. What did Elon Musk actually do, and why has it driven Democrats this far off the rails?
All that happened was that SpaceX's IPO made Elon Musk the world's first trillionaire. Instead of marveling at that achievement, the way most Americans once would have, Democrats treated it like a crime scene. Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) wants to seize Musk's wealth and hand it out to American households, college students, and child care programs. He even did the math for everyone: split it among households, fund college for 7.7 million students, or cover child care from birth to age 18 for 4.3 million kids.
Schiff didn't stop at numbers. He called Musk's success "a product of a corrupt system." That's a remarkable thing coming from a career politician who has never built anything in his life. Musk built something real. He’s making space travel cheaper and more accessible, and making autonomous cars a reality.
Adam Schiff released a video fantasizing about what “we” could pay for “by the wealth of our first trillionaire."

"$1 trillion, if we decided to distribute that equally among American households, your household would get $7,500..."
Sounds downright utopian, Adam. pic.twitter.com/uPFT11u3a0
Schiff wasn't the only one who lost it. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) piled on too, claiming that if Musk paid her "ultra-millionaire tax," the country could fully fund free community college. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) wants Musk to make Social Security solvent again.

Their ideas varied, but one thing was the same: they all believed that Elon Musk isn’t entitled to his wealth. The mere idea of Musk being a trillionaire caused the entire party to break out in hives.
The ironic thing is that Democrats don’t seem to understand that Musk's wealth isn't sitting in a bank waiting to be taken by force and redistributed. It's tied up in the stock value of his companies. Maybe they don’t realize it, or are counting on the public to be ignorant of this fact. Either way, they are actively entertaining ways to take Musk’s wealth. Let's be honest here, this isn't about fairness. In the leftists’ worldview, wealth earned in the private sector is treated as inherently suspect. Meanwhile, power accumulated through government is treated as virtuous.
America was once sold as the land of opportunity, a place where ambition and hard work could turn anyone into something extraordinary. Musk proved that promise still works. Democrats can't forgive him for it. But Musk isn’t the only one. Countless Americans have created wealth for themselves and others while making the lives of Americans better in the process.
Democrats once celebrated this. Now they condemn it.
And notice who's doing the complaining. Schiff, Warren, Sanders and the rest of their party aren't exactly scraping by. Most of the Democrats railing against the evils of capitalism happen to be wealthy themselves, and they guard their own fortunes closely while demanding everyone else hand theirs over. Capitalism is evil, apparently, right up until it's their bank account.
Whether it's Democrats in Washington or your leftist cousin at Thanksgiving, the pattern never changes. They look at what someone else built and earned, decide it was ill-gotten, and conclude that the government is entitled to take it and redistribute it. Elon Musk didn't break any laws. He broke the Democrats' ability to pretend they're not socialists.
