Ever wonder why Democrats fight tooth and nail against simple fixes to secure our elections? They say it’s voter suppression, Jim Crow 2.0, as if they think black and Hispanic Americans are too stupid to get a valid ID. But, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer may have accidentally handed us the real answer.
Here’s what happened: a reporter questioned Schumer’s opposition to the SAVE Act by pointing out that 85% of voters support Voter ID, which is exactly what the SAVE Act does: it requires proof of citizenship to register to vote and a photo ID to vote at the polls.
Now, we’ve heard all kinds of excuses from the left about why the SAVE Act is bad. In addition to the “black people can’t get IDs” nonsense, they’ve even claimed that the law blocks married women from voting. I guess they figured out that fairy tale wasn’t fooling anyone, because what Schumer said next was something rather new.
“Their bill isn't Voter ID, number one; it is about voter registration,” Schumer claimed. “It allows ICE to kick tens of billions of people off the rolls, off the rolls. And they don’t tell them until Election Day, and you show up, and you say, ‘You’re not registered anymore, you’re not registered here. You’re not on the rolls.’ And they say, ‘I didn’t know that.’ This is a bill that destroys the country.”
A lot of people are pointing at his use of the word “billions,” but let’s not get distracted by that.
Schumer continued, "And it is not about showing ID when you show up to vote. It’s about the voter registration rolls — destroying them, purging them, not letting people know and taking the rights in a algorithm put together by ICE, put together by DOGE [Department of Government Efficiency] and [Elon] Musk. It’s an outrage. And that’s why so many people don’t want to pass it.”

Now, it goes without saying that Schumer is just talking nonsense here. Nothing in the SAVE Act matches his feverish rant. If you read the legislation, it says that states handle their own rolls, taking "affirmative steps" to ensure only citizens register for federal races. States are the ones that are mandated to remove non-citizens—no rogue ICE squads and no secret Elon Musk androids are involved either.
So, let’s call this out for what it is. Schumer's not mad about who cleans the voter rolls; he's worried about who gets removed: ineligible voters. And you can bet that for all the claims that non-citizen voting is rare, if it really were, Schumer wouldn’t have had to make up this fake news about ICE purging “billions” off the voter rolls.

Look, we know Democrats don’t want secure elections; that’s really not in doubt. Their claims of blacks and other minorities fall apart because poll after poll after poll shows that minorities support Voter ID, and frankly, claiming that minorities can’t get a photo ID is really, really racist. It was never about genuine concern over suppressing the minority vote; it’s about worrying about ineligible voters being removed from voter rolls, like illegal immigrants and dead people.
Schumer may have thought he was shooting a silver bullet into the SAVE Act, but in reality, he just proved why Democrats really oppose it.
