There was a time when I think we all believed that, even though Republicans and Democrats disagreed on the issues, they still supported this country. Sadly, I think those days are long behind us. Blinded by their hatred of one man, they’ve chosen to oppose American strength, sovereignty, and the right to defend itself. Their opposition to Operation Southern Spear is just the latest example.
Democrats once treated drug cartels like the wartime enemy they are. Joe Biden sat before cameras in 1989 as chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee to warn America about narco-terrorists. His words painted a dire picture. "America is under attack literally," Biden declared. "Under attack by an enemy that is well financed, well supplied, and well armed—and fully capable of declaring total war against a nation and its people. We are fighting, and losing, a war on our own soil."
Biden wasn't mincing words about who the enemy was. He meant drug bosses and traffickers, and he wanted blood. "Let's go after the drug lords where they live with an international strike force," Biden demanded. "There must be no safe haven for these narco-terrorists."
That Joe Biden and that Democratic Party no longer exist.
The cartels still exist, and the threat they pose hasn't fundamentally changed. If anything, it’s gotten worse. The only thing that has changed is that Trump is in the White House. Because of that, Democrats have developed a curious case of amnesia about their own hawkish history. President Trump understands that narco-terrorist networks are the wartime enemy they've always been, deploying Operation Southern Spear to actively take out narcoterrorists in the Caribbean. Democrats don’t seem to care anymore. They’d rather use the strikes as a political cudgel against him than protect our nation from the dangerous drugs being brought in.
What makes the Democrats’ opposition to these strikes even worse is that the strikes are working. As President Trump noted during last week’s cabinet meeting, “drugs coming in … by sea, are down 91%.”
But now the left screams that Trump's actions exceed commander-in-chief authority and raise accusations of war crimes.
This is Trump Derangement Syndrome in its purest form. The same party that once demanded we hunt down drug lords "where they live" now clutches its pearls when Trump actually does it. The same party that shrugged off hundreds of Obama drone strikes—complete with significant civilian casualties, and at least four American casualties—now wants us to believe they are genuinely outraged at what’s happening. I don’t think they are. They smell an opportunity to lob another baseless accusation against Trump and are taking it.
ICYMI: New York Times Finally Admits Biden Border Crisis Was Intentional — Sort Of
This is who they are now. Democrats supported border security until Trump made it his signature issue in 2016. They supported targeting narcoterrorists until Trump turned the policy into action.
The pattern is crystal clear: whatever Trump does, Democrats reflexively oppose, even if it means abandoning positions they held for decades. Even if it means siding with the very narco-terrorist cartels they once called America's greatest national security threat. The drugs keep coming, Americans keep dying, and Democrats keep protecting the enemy—all because they can't stomach giving Trump a win.
