Accountability Is Not Weaponization

For four years, the Biden administration and Democrats in positions of power at the state level orchestrated one of the most brazen campaigns of political lawfare in American history. Democrats used the government to destroy Donald Trump and prevent his return to the White House.

And now, the very same folks who cheered on this political persecution are outraged that Trump’s Justice Department might actually live by the Democrats’ mantra: “No one is above the law.”

The irony is staggering. When Trump was on the receiving end of this full-on government assault, the left called it justice. But now that accountability is being aimed at those who abused their own positions, the media has rediscovered words such as “dangerous,” “unprecedented,” and, of course, “authoritarian.”

The hypocrisy is almost too much to stomach.

Case in point: the investigation into Adam Schiff’s alleged mortgage fraud. Democrats and their allies insist that such probes are political hit jobs, yet Schiff built his entire career on weaponized investigations designed to tear Trump down. Then there’s the raid of John Bolton’s home and office. Bolton, of all people—once hailed by the left as a brave truth-teller when he turned on Trump—is now portrayed as a martyr for democracy. The very same networks that applauded the FBI storming Mar-a-Lago now treat the search of Bolton’s home and office as an abuse of power.

And it’s not just coming from the left, either. Even voices of the anti-Trump right are joining the chorus. Jonah Goldberg posted on X with biting sarcasm: “Thank goodness the era of weaponizing the justice system and national security lawfare has come to an end.”

You can almost hear the Beltway elitists nodding in agreement over their lattes, smugly lamenting Trump’s supposed abuses while ignoring the real abuses that got us here.

But this raises the obvious question. Why is it acceptable for Democrats, with the full backing of the media, to hurl the justice system at Trump, yet somehow it is outrageous that Trump goes after those who very clearly crossed legal and ethical lines? Schiff allegedly committed mortgage fraud—a crime with very severe consequences. Should he be immune simply because he was part of the Trump witch hunts? The same people who chanted “no one is above the law” for years suddenly have a different standard when Democrats are under the microscope.

Frankly, we voted for this.

We voted to hold accountable those who weaponized the government against Trump, because we can’t let such abuses happen again. The only way to prevent them from happening again is to enforce the law and show that there are consequences.

Trump’s critics want to play both sides—justice is sacred when Trump is the target, but it’s a threat to democracy when Democrats are. They can’t have it both ways. If “no one is above the law,” then no one is above the law. And if Democrats who waged war on Trump are finally being forced to answer for what they did, that’s not the collapse of democracy. That’s what accountability looks like.
