There’s a point where political ideology stops being mainstream and starts becoming self-destructive. The Democratic Party has become increasingly radical, beholden to a rising generation of left-wing activists who not only reject American values but also openly romanticize authoritarian regimes that would obliterate their freedoms. And if Democrats don’t course correct soon, they may not recover. Thought it might be too late already.
And don’t just take my word for it. The party has become so radical that even some on the left are starting to sound the alarm. But instead of pulling back, Democrats seem poised to hand the reins to a younger generation too indoctrinated to see just how dangerous their worldview has become.
On his latest show on HBO, Bill Maher delivered a scathing indictment of today’s Democratic Party, zeroing in on what he sees as its most fatal flaw: a generation of young leftists who hate the country they live in and admire regimes that would crush their freedoms.
“This is a serious problem for Democrats,” Maher began. “Less than one in four Democrats under 30 say they’re proud to be an American. 54% say they’re embarrassed by it. Embarrassed, like America’s your mom picking you up at school?”
Maher didn’t mince words, blasting the lack of perspective among progressive youth. “You’re embarrassed to be an American? Well, guess what? The feeling’s mutual—because you have no perspective.”
He reminded viewers that despite its flaws, America remains far ahead of most nations on issues young progressives claim to care about. “America has 14 million women-owned businesses. 17% of black women are starting businesses faster than white women or white men. Gay Americans are free to marry, and 49% of them own property,” Maher said. “Yes, in America, gays buy buildings. In other places, they get thrown off them.”
Maher mocked the cosmetic multiculturalism promoted by Democrats as a hollow substitute for substance. “Our current Congress is the most racially and ethnically diverse ever—they’re like a beautiful, useless rainbow.”
Even TV commercials didn’t escape his ridicule. “Every TV commercial features a mixed race couple, including the ones where it makes no sense. Mom’s black, dad’s white, and the kid’s Asian.”
But the heart of Maher’s rant focused on the Democratic Party’s growing embrace of anti-American radicalism and anti-Israel extremism. “Their young people, their key constituency, not only don’t like their own civilization, they like the wrong one,” he said. “They actually think Hamas is a liberation movement. They chant for the Houthis. They’re chanting, ‘We will honor our martyrs’ at Yale.”
He continued, “Someone needs to tell the kids that America is not the society where women basically have no rights, where there’s zero freedom of religion, and where dissent is punishable by death.”
Maher slammed the crowd at Coachella for cheering an Irish rap group’s “F*** Israel, free Palestine” message and blasted the rising popularity of “Globalize the Intifada” as a slogan. “As if worldwide suicide bombing and cosplaying Islamic revolutionaries is the answer to our problems.”
Citing a disturbing moment at a Bernie Sanders and AOC rally, Maher noted, “Someone threw a Palestinian flag over an American flag, and the crowd erupted in approval.”

“If the thought leaders in the Democratic Party keep encouraging and not rebuking the idea that America is cringe and the people who run Gaza are great, the Democrats are doomed,” Maher warned.
He wrapped up by torching liberal weakness and the party’s refusal to push back on lunacy. “Last election, it was all the gender stuff, the insistence that men can have babies and such. And now I fear that ‘we like the terrorists’ is the new that.”
He’s right. That, perhaps more than anything, is going to be the Democratic Party’s downfall. Their insistence on going woke and caring more about radical gender ideology than kitchen table issues sent a clear message to working class voters in the 2024 election that Democrats simply don’t care about what’s important to them anymore.
