Democrats love to talk about “democracy” and “unity” — until one of their own dares to think independently. Now Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) is learning the hard way what happens when you stop parroting the party line and start trying to get things done.
I’ve never been a fan of Fetterman, and there’s no doubt in my mind that he misled voters in 2022 about his medical condition to get elected. But his party backed him up completely then. Now they’re throwing him under the bus.
This hit job against Fetterman isn't just about his meetings with Trump at Mar-a-Lago or his support for Israel. This is about sending a message to any Democrat who dares to step out of line with the party's radical agenda. New York Magazine's hit piece, which questions everything from Fetterman's mental health to his decision-making abilities, reads like a Soviet-era character assassination.
And who is calling out this flagrant display of leftist cannibalism? None other than former CNN host Chris Cuomo.
“Fetterman has been reaching across the aisle too much for them,” Cuomo observed on his show on NewsNation. “The senator crushes Hamas and campus protests, which, as we all know, is a pet project of the radical left. He met with Trump at Mar-a-Lago — that’s a huge sin. And he worked with Republicans on passing the Laken Riley Act and voted for 10 of Trump’s cabinet picks.”
Cuomo continued, “And now the senator is saying that Trump has keyed in correctly on the most important concern in our country: Helping the majority do better when it comes to workers and economic benefits.”

Contrary to the claims of the far Left — and even some wishful thinking from the Right — Fetterman isn't some MAGA convert. He's simply doing what politicians used to do before Trump Derangement Syndrome infected the Democrat Party: working for his constituents. The Pennsylvania senator has maintained his leftist credentials on numerous issues, but he's also shown a willingness to reach across the aisle at times.
Politically, this is smart, considering that Fetterman represents a state that voted for Trump twice and is trending redder. His record is still overwhelmingly leftist, but he needs to be able to seek reelection in a state that is likely going to be more Republican in 2028 than it was in 2022 when he first won. Without a doubt, he likely represents the Democrats' best chance of holding the seat, but if they have their way, he’ll go the way Sherrod Brown in Ohio or Kyrsten Sinema in Arizona.
The irony here is stunning. Democrats keep wondering why they're losing working-class voters in droves, yet they're actively trying to destroy one of the few Democrats who actually connect with blue-collar Americans. As Cuomo astutely pointed out, "Democrats, this is why you lost. You can't cancel everyone who doesn't hate the right and play by your stilted rules of purity."
This episode perfectly encapsulates everything wrong with today's Democrats. They've become so obsessed with ideological purity that they're willing to eat their own. Their litmus test isn't about helping Americans anymore; it's about how loudly you can scream "Orange Man Bad" and how faithfully you toe the party line on every single issue.
For conservatives, this internecine warfare on the Left is both entertaining and revealing. While I wouldn't vote for Fetterman myself, his treatment by his own party shows just how far the Democrats have fallen. They'd rather have an ineffective radical who checks all their ideological boxes than someone who will, even rarely, work across the aisle to get reelected.
And that, perhaps more than anything else, tells you everything you need to know about today's Democrat Party.
