Trump Is No Lame Duck

From the moment Donald Trump won the 2024 election, the left rushed to brand him a “lame duck.” But the term traditionally refers to an official whose successor has already been elected or someone nearing the end of their final term with no plans—or ability—to run again. That definition clearly doesn’t apply to Trump. The label was never about accuracy; it was a political jab meant to paint him as powerless and irrelevant, even as he prepared to retake the reins of power.

Well, despite the best efforts of the liberal media to dismiss Trump as ineffectual with no bully pulpit, they are realizing he is no lame duck in his second term. The media thought some shameless projection about a “weakened” Trump presidency would make it so, but the exact opposite has happened. He’s stormed back into the White House with a level of executive action that hasn’t been seen in modern history—and CNN’s own data analyst is sounding the alarm.

CNN’s Harry Enten laid out the numbers this week in a rare moment of honesty from the network. “I think there was this concern among some folks that Donald Trump would come in for a second term and kinda be a lame duck,” Enten said. “He ain’t no lame duck. If anything, he’s a soaring eagle.”

Enten pointed to the avalanche of executive orders Trump has signed in just his first few months back in office. “He’s already signed 111 so far. That is the most, at this point in a presidency, in at least 100 years. In fact, it’s the most in any single year, and we’re only in April, since Harry S. Truman in the early 1950s.”

Let that sink in. Trump hasn’t just outpaced recent presidents—he’s on track to eclipse everyone going back to Truman. While Biden was bogged down with process and public opinion polls, Trump is cutting red tape and charging forward, undoing the chaos of the last four years with a pen and a purpose.

“Whether you like Trump or you don’t like him,” Enten admitted, “you can’t say that he’s come in and not try to deliver on what he at least believes was his promises on the campaign trail, and he’s doing so in historic fashion.”

And how is the public reacting to Trump’s aggressive style?

“Get this,” Enten said. “86% of the American public believes that Trump’s approach to presidential power is completely different from past presidents, compared to only 14% who believe it is in line with precedent. And we’re talking about at least 79% of Democrats, Independents, and Republicans.”

In other words, people see the difference. Trump isn’t just another president checking boxes. He’s using the power of the presidency unapologetically to fix the mess he inherited—and Americans of all political stripes are noticing.

“You can agree or you can disagree with Donald Trump,” Enten concluded, “but what you can’t disagree with is that he’s doing things very differently.… He is doing it, quote-unquote, ‘my way.’”

Indeed, he is.
