I’m So Over the Democrats’ Post-Election Blame Game

In the wake of Donald Trump’s victory in the election, it’s been quite fun to watch Democrats’ pointing fingers and blaming each other for their defeat. But I have to admit, over the past few weeks, I’ve been getting kind of sick of it. Everyone’s got their theories as to what went wrong and who’s at fault, and it’s exhausting.

Seriously, it’s become such a tiresome ritual at this point, with the consultant class trying desperately to save face after convincing left-wing voters that Kamala Harris was going to win, even though anyone worth their weight in salt should have known she was doomed.

We’ve heard it all; they blamed Joe Biden for seeking a second term and for taking too long drop out, Kamala Harris for picking Tim Walz, for not doing the Joe Rogan podcast, for wasting money of frivolous things… None of these would have made a difference.

Democrats’ post-election soul-searching always seems to miss the point. It’s not the messaging or the timing—it’s the policies. Americans aren’t interested in identity politics or platitudes about compassion. They want leadership that prioritizes their safety, their jobs, and their communities. You know, the basics.

Instead of accepting this reality, Democrats like to blame everything else: the candidate, the media, the electorate itself, or my favorite: their messaging problem. Trust me, they didn’t lose because of “miscommunication” or because voters are misinformed. They lost because they’re out of touch.

A new theory is emerging, and it may be the closest yet. According to a report from the left-leaning polling group BluePrint2024, President-elect Donald Trump’s tough-on-immigration campaign played a decisive role in his victory over Kamala Harris. The data shows that over half of swing voters in key states chose Trump specifically because of his immigration policies. Swing voters broke for Trump by a 52%-38% margin, with nearly half making their decision in the final weeks of the campaign.

The report also highlights why: voters saw Democrats as prioritizing illegal immigrants over American citizens. A staggering 73% of undecided voters who went with Trump felt Democrats were “misaligned on their top policy priorities” and too focused on identity politics. These voters delivered Trump the win because they were tired of an administration that turned a blind eye to border chaos.

And naturally, Democrats are pointing fingers at Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for costing the Democrats the election.

But it’s not their fault alone. For years, Democrats enabled the border crisis. They pretended it wasn’t happening. Democrats at state and local levels to this day are vowing to fight against Trump’s efforts to deport illegal immigrants.

Some Democrats, to their credit, are starting to realize the party as a whole dropped the ball.

“We destroyed ourselves on the immigration issue in ways that were entirely predictable and entirely manageable,” one Democrat senator told The Hill. “We utterly mismanaged that issue, including our Democratic caucus here. That’s political malpractice. That’s not someone else’s fault. That’s not the groups pushing us around.”

Finally, some honesty. But don’t get used to it. Frankly, I'm not convinced that Democrats are going to change their ways. Kamala Harris only ran as an immigration hawk because the polls told her she needed to. No one actually believed she was, or believed she would be if she were elected. Democrats always run to the center in elections and govern from the far left. That's what they always do. So I don't want to keep hearing about what Democrats think they did wrong until it's combined with a party-wide realization that they've become too radical and out of touch and are willing to change.
