As the 2024 election looms, it’s easy to forget that uncertainty surrounding the 2024 Democratic Party ticket could have repercussions beyond November. Yes, it could help propel Trump back to the White House, but it may also become the impetus for a party known for its unshaken unity to become bitterly divided for years to come.
Make no mistake about it: the Democratic Party is imploding. Watching this as a conservative has been delightful. For years, I’ve seen the Democrat Party prove time and time again that they have been far more united than the Republican Party has ever been in my lifetime. Just last year, not a single House Democrat voted in favor of legislation protecting women’s sports from allowing biological males.
I am under no illusions that the Democrat Party loves Joe Biden the way they loved Barack Obama or even Bill Clinton back in the day. But, there are enough in the party who have allowed themselves to put him on a pedestal and have become loyal to him. Biden, for sure, thinks his record is the bee’s knees, and fancies himself a more transformative president than Barack Obama.

Yet, Biden, who is now holed up in his Delaware beach house recovering from COVID, now feels betrayed and angry at even his closest allies, according to a report from The New York Times.
Frankly, I believe the infighting and chaos among the Democrats could weaken the party for years to come, and conservatives are relishing every moment.
“Mr. Biden has been around politics long enough to assume that the leaks appearing in the media in recent days are being coordinated to raise the pressure on him to step aside, according to people close to him,” The New York Times reports. “He considers Representative Nancy Pelosi, the former House speaker, the main instigator, but is irritated at Mr. Obama as well, seeing him as a puppet master behind the scenes.”
Without a doubt, this situation is unprecedented in presidential politics.
The steady stream of media reports predicting a disastrous outcome for the Democrats if Biden stays on the ticket has only fueled Biden’s frustration. Biden has particularly noticed Obama's silence and the calls from his former aides for him to withdraw, interpreting these as a signal from the former president's camp.
“He certainly noticed that Mr. Obama has not done anything to help him in recent days even as his own former aides publicly have led the way in calling on Mr. Biden to withdraw in what was interpreted, rightly or wrongly, as a message from the former president’s camp,” the article explains.

The chorus of Democrats calling for Biden to step down is growing louder, and Obama’s invisible hand in the process is clear. Biden has spent much of his presidency hyping up his relationship with Obama, doing everything short of inviting him over for sleepovers and making pillow forts in the Lincoln Bedroom.
With that in mind, it could lead Biden loyalists to turn on Obama, who has long enjoyed immense popularity from his party. Think about it. If Biden is pushed out, why shouldn’t his supporters blame Obama for his lack of support and betrayal? I would.
But, perhaps even worse will be the resentment aimed at the leaders of the Democratic Party over the handling of Biden's cognitive decline. For years, party leaders have insisted Biden was fit for the job, downplaying or outright dismissing concerns about his mental acuity.
As the truth becomes harder to conceal, Democrats could face a backlash from within their own ranks. Many may feel deceived, believing the party put its political interests above the nation's well-being by propping up a clearly cognitively impaired candidate.
This internal struggle and public display of disunity could have lasting effects on the Democratic Party. The open conflict between current and former leaders, coupled with the contentious calls for Biden to step down, could sow seeds of division that linger long after the 2024 election regardless of whether Biden stays in the race or not. If Trump wins, there will be a epic blame game that will amplify that division, and put the party in turmoil.
