Why Haven’t More American Hostages in Gaza Been Released Yet?

Ever since a four-day ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas was agreed to, Joe Biden has been doing his best to try to take credit for it and the hostages that have so far been released.

"Beginning this morning, under a deal reached by extensive U.S. diplomacy, including numerous calls I’ve made from the Oval Office to leaders across the region, fighting in Gaza will halt for four days,” Biden announced on Friday. "This deal also is structured to allow a pause to continue for more than 50 hostages to be released. That’s our goal."

"From the moment Hamas kidnapped these people, I, along with my team, have worked around the clock to secure their release,” he added later.

Whatever role the Biden administration may or may not have played in the negotiation process, if Biden is so desperate to assume credit for the ceasefire, perhaps he can explain why no Americans have been released since two hostages were released in late October. He can’t. He doesn’t even know when they might be released.

"Mr. President, when will the first American hostages be released, since none were included today?” a reporter asked him.

"We don’t know when that will occur,” Biden admitted, "but we’re going to be — expect it to occur. And we don’t know what the list of all the hostages are and when they’ll be released, but we know the numbers that are going to be released.  So, it is my hope and expectation it will be soon."

"And of the 10 Americans that are unaccounted for, do you know all of their conditions?” the reporter asked. "Are they all alive?"

"We don’t know all their conditions,” Biden conceded.

He doesn’t know when they’ll be released, or what their conditions are; for all we know, some are dead. For a guy who is so willing to brag about his role in the process, he knows very little about the American citizens who are still being held hostage. Why is that? Why haven’t any Americans been released yet, if Biden is so involved in the process?

Why is that the case? Well, former President Donald Trump has a theory.

"Has anybody noticed that Hamas has returned people from other Countries but, so far, has not returned one American Hostage?” Trump asked in a post on Truth Social. "There is only one reason for that, NO RESPECT FOR OUR COUNTRY OR OUR LEADERSHIP. This is a very sad and dark period of America!"

"Hamas now wants a better deal for hostages,” Trump added in a separate post. "This is not going to end well!"

Sounds spot-on to me. Biden continues to brag about how hands-on he’s been in the process of securing the release of hostages, yet we haven’t seen more U.S. citizens released. If he’s that much of a critical player in the process, how is it that more Americans haven’t been released yet?

In fact, Trump is not the only one who has taken notice the small number American hostages who have been released.

"Hamas is refusing to release the American citizens they have taken hostage,” Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) tweeted Saturday. "What is the President of the United States doing about this? He’s continuing to enjoy his holiday vacation in a $40 million dollar mansion."
