Biden’s ‘Age' Was Always an Issue

There’s some poetic justice in seeing the media and the Democrats scrambling to figure out a strategy to deal with Joe Biden’s “age" issue. And there’s really no way to sugarcoat the problem it presents.

As my PJ Media colleague Rick Moran previously noted, the Biden campaign thinks they can can deflect and distract from his age by pointing out his "historic accomplishments” and that Donald Trump is only three years younger than Biden.

But they knew then, as we all know now, that Biden’s age isn’t the real issue. Three years may separate Trump and Biden, but Biden looks three decades older. He’s slow, frail, and would likely be in a nursing home if he wasn’t in public life.

Sure, both Trump and Biden may say things that make us cringe. Trump is being provocative, however, while Biden doesn’t seem to have a clue what he’s saying or doing half the time and has spent 40% of his presidency on vacation. One can’t help but wonder whether the worst of Biden’s problems are kept secret. But the real issue is Biden’s cognitive decline—which is no doubt connected to his advanced age. So it is understood that when we talk about Biden’s age, that’s the real problem.

It's clear Biden's campaign knows Biden’s “age” is an issue, because they’re trying so hard to pretend it’s not. "For those of you that think the president might be too old or doesn’t have enough energy or whatever it is that you all think, this guy gets up early. He stays up late,” Biden aide Mitch Landrieu told Slate. "We have made trips, if not every week, sometimes twice a week and three times a week. And we have done it over and over again and there’s nothing new here. What’s wonderful about it is how relentless that it is and how many places that we have been."

“The guy is like, he’s a beast,” he added.

I remember when Trump’s White House aides described him as a workaholic during his presidency. The fact that Biden’s people are trying this hard to make us believe the same of Biden would seem cute, if not for the fact that they are pushing a narrative that is so clearly not reflective of reality. We knew Trump was up early and stayed up late because his Twitter account was often active. Joe Biden calls lids early in the day and goes on vacation more than any president in history. The White House effort to make Biden sound vigorous is just as pathetic and useless as their efforts to hype up the economy. Americans don’t need the White House telling them about the economy because they're experiencing the pain of Biden’s policies first hand. Similarly, they don’t need the White House telling them a Biden is an energetic workaholic because they can see with their own eyes that he’s not.

Are we supposed to believe we’re misinterpreting the times he appears lost on stage, can’t seem to speak coherently, or  seems to fall asleep in the middle of an interview?

None of this is actually news though. We knew in 2020 Biden’s “age” was a liability for the country. We pointed out how Biden was using the pandemic as an excuse to campaign from his basement and stay out of sight as much as possible. They all knew then what was going on. They decided to try their best to hide it. And for all of those who are now admitting it’s a problem, well maybe you should have thought of that four years ago.
