On Tuesday, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) plans to introduce a resolution to censure Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) for engaging in “antisemitic activity” and “sympathizing with terrorist organizations.”

“The [Democratic] Party has done nothing to hold her accountable. They’ve done nothing to rein her in, and no one else here has done it. And so I thought it was right to list examples of – this isn’t just new. This isn’t a one-off thing. This is exactly who she is,” Greene told Fox News Digital.

The censure resolution comes in response to Tlaib’s participation in a protest at Capitol Hill last week when pro-Palestinian activists took over the rotunda at the Cannon House Office Building. Tlaib spoke to protesters outside, calling for a ceasefire. Greene’s censure resolution also cites Tlaib’s history of anti-Semitic remarks and actions.

“I think we will have every single Republican vote with us for this central resolution,” Greene told Fox News. She suspects there will be bipartisan support for the resolution as well. “It would be shocking to me if [Democrats] didn’t vote for it.”

According to the text of the resolution, Greene wants Tlaib censured “for antisemitic activity, sympathizing with terrorist organizations, and leading an insurrection at the United States Capitol Complex.”

I’m not so convinced. While it’s possible some Democrats might be willing to censure Tlaib for anti-Semitism, none would vote for the resolution calling the recent protest at the U.S. Capitol an “insurrection,” since that’s a word they are only willing to use in reference to the Capitol riot.

Democrats have largely been united when it comes to protecting members of their own caucus. In 2021, when senior Democratic leaders rebuked Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) for equating so-called “crimes against humanity” by the United States and Israel to “unthinkable atrocities” by the Taliban and Hamas, Nancy Pelosi quickly backtracked.

“We did not rebuke her. We thanked — acknowledged that she made a clarification,” then-Speaker Pelosi told CNN’s Dana Bash. “Congresswoman Omar is a valued member of our caucus. She asked her questions of the secretary of state. Nobody criticized those, about how people will be held accountable if we’re not going to the International Court of Justice. That was a very legitimate question. That was not of concern. Members did become concerned when the tweet that was put out equated the United States with the Taliban and Hamas.”

Greene also wants an investigation of Tlaib’s participation in the protest. “It should [have] a House Ethics investigation. [The House Administration Committee] should be investigating it. I think the Department of Justice, FBI should be investigating, even possibly the CIA,” Greene said.
