It's Official: Democrats Succeeded in Turning the Public AGAINST Impeachment

I can only imagine how heartbroken the folks at CNN must have been when a poll they just released showed that on the eve of the historic impeachment vote, support for impeachment has gone done. At the start of the impeachment process support for impeaching and removing Trump had found stable footing at or slightly above 50 percent. But, CNN’s latest poll shows support for impeachment has dropped to 45 percent—a decline of five points since mid-November, when the House Intelligence Committee’s public hearings had concluded.

A plurality of Americans now opposes impeachment and removal, with 47 percent opposing today, up from 43 percent in mid-November.

Perhaps the most surprising part of the poll is how much support for impeachment and removal has declined amongst Democrats. In November, 90 percent of Democrats supported impeachment and removal, while only 77 percent do now—a staggering 13-point drop.

“But that’s just one poll!” you might hear a liberal say. “It’s an outlier!”

Let’s just get this out of the way: this is no outlier. In fact, CNN’s poll is only the latest to show negative support for impeachment. On Monday evening, Tom Bevan of Real Clear Politics announced on Twitter that “With two new polls added this morning, support for impeachment is officially under water.”

Bevan’s tweet didn’t include the CNN poll or a Quinnipiac Poll with an even larger spread against impeachment. As of this writing, the last five polls on impeachment have been bad news for the Democrats, with one showing an even split and the other four showing clear opposition.

If Democrats and their partisan impeachment process couldn’t move public opinion solidly in favor of impeachment, then a Senate trial run by Republicans certainly won’t.

With a House vote expected to happen Wednesday, this is the worst possible news Democrats could get.
