It works for the left, so why not?
Kellyanne Conway, the woman who managed Donald Trump’s presidential victory, responded to Meryl Streep’s speech at the Golden Globe Awards with her own insightful observation.

“We have to now form a government and I’m concerned that somebody with a platform like Meryl Streep is also I think inciting people’s worst instincts when she won’t get up there and say ‘I didn’t like it but let’s try to support him and see where we can find some common ground with him,’” said Conway.
Streep took the stage and lectured the audience after receiving a lifetime achievement award at the event, explaining: “Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners. If you kick ’em all out, you’ll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts, which are not the arts.”
She didn’t mention Donald Trump by name when she implied that the rich and powerful 1 percenters in the audience and in the industry of Hollywood were somehow victims.
On Fox News, Conway shot back. “I didn’t hear her even use her platform last night to give a shoutout to the mentally challenged boy who last week was tortured live on Facebook for half an hour by four young African-American adults who were screaming racial and anti-Trump expletives and forcing him to put his head in toilet water.”
There really is a double standard regarding the pervasive speech codes. On the one hand, certain political and cultural topics must not be spoken about or discussed for fear that they may incite the subjects of discussion, we are warned. But on the other hand, the very same people direct invective toward their acceptable targets with no regard for possible “incitement.”
What’s the difference between some groups, who are assumed to be capable of receiving criticism, mockery or derision, and other people who will be inflamed to violence and action?
Meryl Streep is a very talented actress but I don’t really care about her political opinions. Her candidate lost; it happens.
