Kid Rock makes no secret of his unbridled patriotism. He tours with the USO to entertain our troops, both stateside and overseas, and his concerts feature pro-USA favorites like “Born Free” and “Warrior.” So it comes as no surprise that the rocker is not happy about 49ers player (and Black Lives Matter protester) Colin Kaepernick disrespecting the troops by not standing for the national anthem at recent NFL games.
Kaepernick whined to the media after his first national anthem temper tantrum, “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color.” He added, “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”
Kid Rock clearly disagreed with Kaepernick’s decision, and it didn’t take him very many words to get his point across. In fact, he only needed three words to let everyone know exactly how he felt.
At his September 9 concert at Boston’s Fenway park, Kid Rock was performing “Born Free” with a massive American flag as his backdrop. Suddenly, he took a knee in the middle of the song—just like Kaepernick did at the 49ers game, minus the anti-American douchebaggery. Kid Rock bowed his head for a second, then shouted, “F**k Colin Kaepernick!”
The audience went nuts and many of them joined in as the Detroit rocker honored our troops with the rest of the song:
Calm facing danger
Lost, like an unknown stranger
Grateful for my time with no regrets.Close to my destination
Tired, frail and aching
Waitin’ patiently for the sun to setAnd when its done believe that
I will yell it from that mountain highI was born free
I was born free
I was born free
Born FreeAnd I will vow to the shining seas
And celebrate God’s Grace on me.I was born free
