Media-Proclaimed 'Devout Catholic' Kaine Now Favors Taxpayer-Funded Abortions

Despite the fact that Planned Parenthood’s head ghoul Cecile Richards was thrilled with Hillary Clinton’s choice of Time Kaine as a running mate, the MSM nevertheless spent last weekend breathlessly reporting on Kaine’s Catholicism (because it’s cool if Democrats are religious) and “reporting” on his somewhat less-than-liberal stance on abortion. Inexplicably, even the RNC jumped in on the love fest. By last Saturday night, you wouldn’t have been too far off being confused as to whether he was named to the Democratic ticket or the as the new head of Susan B. Anthony List.

Yeah…about that.

Until recently, her running mate, Tim Kaine, was firmly in the second camp. When asked by a Weekly Standard reporter as recently as early July about the Democratic platform including strong anti-Hyde language, Kaine said, “I haven’t been informed of that change, but I’m going to check it out. I have traditionally been a supporter of the Hyde Amendment, but I’ll check it out.”

In comments this week to CNN and Bloomberg News, the Clinton campaign has signaled that Kaine now had indeed checked it out and stands with Clinton on public funding of abortion. “He has said that he will stand with Secretary Clinton to defend a woman’s right to choose, to repeal the Hyde Amendment,” Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook told CNN.

As a lifelong, exceedingly imperfect Roman Catholic I am usually loathe to spend time judging other Catholics. It’s pretty easy and fair to say, however, that any Catholic in elective office who advocates for abortion is really out of step with the teachings of the Church. Rome isn’t really known for a lack of clarity on such issues and there’s no wiggle room on this one.

Unless your devotion is being measured by the American mainstream media, of course.

Speaking of orthodoxy and doctrine, the Democrats may be even less tolerant of dissension in the ranks than the Roman Catholic Church, so it isn’t surprising that Kaine is saluting and snapping to attention on this issue.

It is disheartening though.
