In the ongoing battle between Verizon and NYC, The City is threatening to stop further installations of the Verizon FIOS fiber optic network until electrical grounding issues are resolved. The problem stems from faulty wiring complaints with NYC claiming that the installations are not up to electrical code and could pose a hazard. Inspectors report that the install rate violations have dropped from 50% to 17%, the figure is still far above the 5% target. While Verizon claims that there is no danger posed by the installation methods, with 3 Million potential customers in The City, the largest US marketplace for FIOS, rest assured Verizon understands NYC’s economic leverage and will make further attempts to accommodate its concerns. Just how far The City can or will push remains to be seen.
