The battle for broadband white space spectrum has taken a decidedly, and anticipated, political turn with Google spearheading a petition drive to open up the unused spectrum. Broadcasters and wireless operators have been claiming potential interference troubles with their existing services and have been maneuvering to slow or stop the white space deployment. The white space proposal recently received support from a number of congressional members and the pending FCC report on interference tests may open the door wider to a decision made on political muscle rather than technical merit.
