Debate: Will YouTube Ever Make Money?

The question behind the question is whether the estimated $1 Billion advertising market for online videos will ever grow to approximate TV’s $50 Billion bucket.  While many think it can, many more think the charge won’t be led by YouTube.  The rub?  Advertisers are rightly petrified of putting their brands at risk in the unmediated world of user-generated content.  Thant means, unless something fundamental changes at YouTube, it will not get to lead the industry it spawned.  Wouldn’t be the first time that the trailblazer succumbed to the slings and arrows.  More from CNET
