Nokia, Qualcomm End 3-Year Worldwide Patent Battle

In retrospect, it all appears to have been a very elaborate and expensive negotiation posture. Qualcomm and Nokia have reached a deal on licensing fees and royalties that will extend for 15 years and put an end to Qualcomm’s contentious worldwide patent infringement lawsuits.  A recent decision by German courts found the company’s complaint baseless and dismissed the suit, the third such loss for Qualcomm in recent months. Maybe the specter of continued legal bills and more of the same results inspired the companies to get back to business.  Stock prices gained on the news.
