As Slate noted a few months ago, back in the 1980s, Spy Magazine had lots of fun running its “Separated at Birth” column; which lives on today in the form of the “Totally Looks Like” Website and numerous other clones. At the Celebslam gossip site today, there’s a photo of Halle Berry with a very close-cropped hairdo, sort of reminiscent of Mia Farrow’s gamine style when she was married to Frank Sinatra in the swingin’ mid-’60s. Not to mention, more than a little reminiscent of…
Style has always moved from the top downward; the Duke of Windsor has been a permanent influence on men’s fashion since the late-1920s. For a while, it seemed like every politician wore his hair like JFK’s; Al Gore’s make-up designer was accused by some of cloning Ronald Reagan’s ruddy look during the 2000 presidential debates. So it shouldn’t be too much of a suprise that President Obama’s look is trend-setting as well these days — and not just for guys, it seems.
