A Profile of Three Legendary Feminists

One thing that the 2013 campaign season doesn’t lack for is feminists. Men who proudly stand for women’s rights, and aren’t ashamed to let their constituents know about it. Men like…Eliot Spitzer!?

New York comptroller candidate Eliot Spitzer — who resigned his governor post in 2008 amid a prostitution scandal — says he’s really a feminist at heart, and has a long track record of supporting and promoting women’s rights.

On an episode of “All In” [Heh — Ed] on Tuesday night, the Democrat called himself a “feminist,” and said his record proved he “was one of devout dedication to women’s rights.”

National Review Online also reported that Mr. Spitzer claimed he’s been a steady defender of women “on the issues of choice, on the issues of equal pay, on the issues of anti-discrimination.”

And when a woman raised the point of his past discretions that toppled his political career, Mr. Spitzer said: “It hurts” that women aren’t fully on board with his current campaign, and he only hopes voters will “look at the totality” of his record before casting their ballots, NRO reported.

But then, as this 2011 flashback recalls, his fellow Democrat competing for the top office in Manhattan isn’t afraid to let know that he stands for women too. Firmly. Proudly. For all to see on Twitter:

“My name is Anthony Weiner and I stand for women!”

That’s not just a tailor-made caption for the indiscreet photo sent from the New York congressman’s Twitter account. Weiner proudly delivered that line twice during a rah-rah sisterhood speech to adoring fans at Planned Parenthood’s Stand Up for Women’s Health Rally in February. The only thing missing from his feminist cheerleading was a set of speculum-handled pom-poms.

But Weiner’s feminist rhetoric is far more tumid than the underwear-clad package he “can’t say with certitude” isn’t his — and just as susceptible to shrinkage. So here’s the cold water:

While the intended recipient of the lewd photo, 21-year-old Gennette Cordova, drowns in a raging media maelstrom, Anthony Weiner is using the only life preserver in sight as a hula hoop. Instead of ending the speculation about their relationship by asking law enforcement to investigate the alleged hacking of his Twitter account, Weiner spent the week tossing cagey Clintonian statements and erection puns to an increasingly suspicious press.

This is how Anthony Weiner stands for women.

Well, we all express ourselves in our own unique way. Which brings us to Bob Filner, San Diego’s increasingly legendary Democrat mayor:

10News has learned Mayor Bob Filner has agreed to be the keynote speaker at a benefit for sexual assault victims.

A women veterans group tells 10News the mayor’s camp has just confirmed the appearance. Filner was originally scheduled to attend as an award recipient.

The group has stripped him of the award. Instead, he is set to address the scandal now consuming City Hall.

The woman leading the benefit is Tara Jones, the president of the National Military Women Veterans Association of America.

Months ago, Jones’ group decided to honor Filner with a lifetime leadership award for his work on behalf of women veterans, including the issue of sexual assault.

Amid the recent scandal swirling around Filner, the group stripped him of the award. In a statement, the groups said, “We do not tolerate sexual discrimination at any level within our society.”

Still, the group did not disinvite the mayor from the August award gala, instead announcing that he will address the scandal in a speech.

“He is now the keynote speaker on these injustices,” said the group.

As Ace writes, “A Lifetime Achievement award…?”

If he actually raped a woman, would he get that with a Beyond the Call of Duty cluster?

So, they strip him of the award, and yet they still permit him to keynote a benefit for victims of sexual assault.

This is a “compromise” in the eyes of this undoubtedly super-left organization? Well, we won’t give the serial sexual assaulter a Lifetime Achievement award honoring his many sexual assaults. But we still will give him the position of honor of delivering the keynote.

I suppose it’s possible they plan an ambush. A tough confrontation, maybe. But I doubt it. We’ll have to see.

Oh and — name that party! Curiously, the local ABC affiliate didn’t bother to. I’m sure they were simply pressed for space in their 350-word article.
